Does anyone have any experience regarding getting picked up by Uber in suburban areas like Woodbridge? Or from Springfield metro. Any idea about the wait times? I occasionally take Uber in downtown DC and you can get picked up literally in a minute but have concerns about the availability out in the suburbs. Thanks

<10 minutes in Woodbridge, used numerous times (although mainly Friday-Sunday). Used a couple times in the evening from Springfield (to Woodbridge) and had a car waiting at the station upon arrival

I'd have no concerns about using it in these areas

Don't know if Arlington West of Ballston or off Columbia Pike counts but I average 4-7 min wait in the former and 7-9 minutes in the latter.

Good to hear that using Uber in these areas isn't a problem. I'm not so much concerned about whether its 5 or 10 minutes but I just don't want to get totally stranded. I've had problems in the past getting cabs since they are less interested in going to places likely Woodbridge where they probably won't be able to pick up a fare for the return ride.

I live in Kingstowne. I use Uber exclusively to get to and from the airport. It takes less than 5 minutes during normal business hours. If you have a 6 am flight (I love early morning flights) make sure you install Lyft as a backup. It can take awhile to get someone on either app at 4 am in the morning.

Either way, expect less than 5-minute wait from Springfield metro.

Used both Uber and Lyft for dozens of trips in the further out suburbs of Fair Lakes and Chantilly, even South Riding a few times. Usually wait times within 10 minutes, unless at off peak times, say wee AM hours. Good idea to keep both apps on phone, if one is too far away or in price surge mode, go with the other.

They will be in "surge" mode at the same times, and there are basically just three reasons for using either of them...
1. You don't own a car.
2. You can't stand the hassle of finding parking at your destination.
3. You already have or expect soon to increase your BAC to reckless levels.

It is sometimes true both will be in surge mode at the same time i.e. big concert in area, but from dozens of trips, at other times I have seen only one in surge mode. Another reason for using Lyft and Uber, you and your spouse or significant other only own one car, and you both need to go somewhere different at the same time.
