I'm not smart enough to do this but maybe one of you can do this. Seems we are seeing more and more people come on here and ask a relocation thread or something else then never come back. We need to set up something that if they don't return within 72 hours a virus is sent to their computer. It could be a nice virus. One that Rickrolls them for hours or something like that. Nothing malicious of course.

Be fore anyone gets their blood pressure fired up I'm of course joking.

Sort of.

Another approach that is common is asking for clarification with sentence or two and if they don't respond, they aren't coming back.

Some responders aren't bothered and reply with four page responses to a 3 year old thread.

Relocation is a close second behind driving a little too fast.

I personally wish the mods could implement something like new posters aren't able to start new threads until they've participated in 10 existing threads. Or something like that.

Another suggestion would be automatically disabling an account after a predetermined time, if the poster doesn't log in.

Maybe when the post have a pop up comes up warning that if they don't reply within a set time the post will automatically be deleted?

I don't see that being feasible. Many people just need info and may need it fairly quickly. Making them post in 10 existing threads might send them elsewhere for their info. I realize there is little that can be done but it felt good posting this anyway.

I don't understand why it bothers people. I'm happy to occasionally respond to threads that I feel I can offer input in, but after that my job is done and I don't care if they thank me or respond and sometimes I forget to even check back on the thread. Even if the OP disappears it's not necessarily a waste of time, the info is out there to help anyone in the city-data community who cares.
