If you do a keyword search on Reston (click the search button at the top of the forum and type in Reston), you will see quite a few posts that summarize what life is like in Reston.

To answer your questions in short though, Reston is around 30 miles from Woodbridge. In non-rush hour traffic, it will be a 40-45 minute trip. In rush hour, it will run at the very least an hour, more likely closer to an hour and a half. There is public transportation in the form of buses but the stops are relatively few and far between. Some buses will take you to Vienna Metro station which in turn provides Metro (the subway) access to DC, Arlington, Alexandria and Maryland. I'm not sure if you were interested in public transport from Reston TO Woodbridge, but if so, while not 100% certain, I'd imagine that buses go between the two cities, but the stops are generally few and far between and these suburbs tend to be sprawly so suburb-to-suburb commuting via bus is a rarity here because it will oftentimes require a ridiculously long walk TO a stop. I guess theoretically you COULD of course get by without a car but it would NOT be a wise thing to do and the overwhelming majority of people own cars. Reston is not a high-density area. It's largely sprawly suburbia, meaning that you have to drive to pretty much anywhere. Lastly, Reston like all of Northern Virginia is a pretty multicultural and tolerant community with people from all over the country and the world. Reston is approximately 10% Black.
