Default moving to Arlington

Hi,
I'm possibly moving to a new job in crystal city Arlington this spring from Pennsylvania. I'd like to find a town with a suburban feel (good for kids and dog), decent single family homes that aren't crazy expensive and with a commute under an hour. I'd actually prefer public transportation as I'm used to taking the commuter trains around Philadelphia. Any suggestions please? Is Fairfax a good bet?

Also, how far to find good trout fishing? I'm a long-time fly fisher who will miss the Pocono mountains.

Define "crazy expensive."
You can find decent single family homes, good for kids and dogs, within an hour of Crystal City, but you'll have to plan to spend at least $500K.

I was hoping $500 max for 3-4 bedroom/2 bath. Where I am now that would cost 350.

One suggestion is to look for homes in Burke (22015) or West Springfield (22152). I still get listings emailed for the area and many homes are within your price range. It is family-friendly and easily accessible to parks, rec centers, libraries, shopping, etc. The schools are also very good. You'll have the option of either taking the VRE (commuter train) or the metro to work. VRE parking is free although there is also a shuttle that goes around neighborhoods so you don't even have to drive to the park n ride. You may even have the option of carpooling, slugging, or even taking a bus to work depending on where you choose to live.

$500 want even get you a door in arlington. The rent to food is very high. The schools are very good. The commute is crazy. I moved down here from upper darby/yeadon I miss it. Babysitters here can charge from $100 to $200 a week. If you have the money then this is the place for you . Good luck
