Haymarket/Gainesville Vet Recommendations??
Hi All...I recently moved to Haymarket from Burke. I had a WONDERFUL vet in Annandale and am very sad to not be able to take my pets to him any longer. So I hope someone can recommend a GREAT and CARING vet in the area (Haymarket/Gainesville, even Manassas). Please let me know also if there are any to avoid. Thanks!!

I'd try Stonewall Vet on Gallerher Road in Gainesville. Hubby took one of our dogs there when he had a lump on his belly and he was satisfied with them. Our next door neighbor took their boxer there recently for a surgery and were happy. I've taken another dog to PetsMart and wasn't happy with the vet, I couldn't understand what she was saying due to her accent.. it was really bad! Plus she was more concerned about signing me up for expensive insurance rather than treating the problem with my dog, which really offended me. We take our three dogs to Petco in Manassas for their shots & heartworm medicine. They have a shot clinic about once a month there. You have to stand in line for a bit, but the savings add up with 3 dogs.

A few years back I took my cats to Banfield at Petsmart, and after a couple visits I will never go back. They were awful. All of their "vet techs" are 16 yr olds working there as their after school job. Which would be fine, if being on their phones and giggling with each other wasn't their top priorty, and they actually LIKED animals. They wouldn't do anything w/out first making sure you could pay for it. It was crazy how they did this. The vet would come in and examine, then tell you what would need to be done and then excuse her/himself. Then they send in their good ol' 16 yr old tech with the paper with the fees on it to discuss "payment arrangements" and if you could and were willing then the vet would come back in the finish the examination. When my cat got out in the middle of summer and caught fleas, I brought her in for medicine and I got the meds and also "Ewww, gross" by the VET! I was astounded, so I've never been back and will advise all others not to go there. Unless for something like shots etc. It's always good when you can save money with Vet care as it's so expensive these days!
Thanks for the recommendation!

I have lived in Haymarket for 10+ years. I use Stonewall Vet off Gallagher in Gainesville. (Near rail road track & Wendy's) They are caring, call me back to follow up after a visit. I would recommend them to anyone! 571-261-2743

update on vet recommendation in Gainesville/Haymarket
hi all -
Could I get an update on vets you recommend for cats in the Gainesville/Haymarket area? I've used Healthy Paws for years but since being taken over by VCA and now wanting to please stockholders I've noted costs going up and quality down. Two months ago I purchased a 12 pound bag of Wellness dry food for cats at $25. Last month it was $32. Yesterday they quoted $40!! - I told them they've lost my business. I note some good reports here about Stonewall...could you all please update to help me make the right decision? Thanks!

I ended up taking my dog to a vet a bit closer to home, Battlefield Animal Clinic, and they have been great with her and the prices and service have been good.
I'll agree about VCA -- when I was in Baltimore I used them for a bit and they were quite pricey.

Heathly Paws/Haymarket
Hello Oceanliner:
My husband and I just moved here from Denver and also have two cats. In a search for Wellness (our cats love it too!) we found what you are finding about the quotes from Healthy Paws. We want to become established with a vet for obvious reasons and after reading this string I think we'll try Stonewall too. There is a place in Chantilly that is the most reasonable place we have found to buy Wellness. We are buying cases at a time (they eat both the wet and the dry formulas) to add convenience for ourselves. If you are interested in the name of the place I can get it from my husband.
Good luck with the vet. Let us know how it turns out.
