It was just " me" who made the area dangerous. ( fixed it for you). Errors in judgment are all good and fine ... until someone gets an eye put out.

Thank you, Sydney123 - that was a very informative message and I think it’s safe to say not only myself, but anyone else who comes across this forum really gained a lot from your words of wisdom.

There was one car within eye distance and it was a sunny / clear sky Saturday afternoon.

Within the week I found “one of the best” lawyers in the area (who charged $2,500). Prior to this, I had a completely clean record. I am 25 years old and have been an Arlington, VA resident for about two years. Prior to moving to VA, I lived in NJ for all my life. I have tried to take a lot of proactive efforts to better my situation, such as:

* Take a defensive driving course (8 hours)
* Take a reckless driving course (4 hours)
* Got my car speedometer recalibrated (I was clocked at going 98 but after getting my vehicle professionally checked out, I was informed the actual speed I was going at at 93 — 5mph slower than I was pulled over for)
* Volunteer (since I moved here I’ve volunteered at more than 12 different events in the northern Virginia area)
* Print out a copy of my VA and NJ driving record (both clear records)
* Print out my resume (currently hold an account manager role for a leading technology company)
* Print my credit score (under category of “excellent”)

I’ve never had to go to court before and truly at no point in my life did I even think I’d face the possibility of spending time in jail and/or having my licenses suspended...

All and all, I’m not really sure what to expect and was hoping someone who’s been pulled over in the area before with a similar charge can share their story with me... I’ve been told the judge for this court is difficult.
Meh.. I hope they throw the book at you. You haven't learned anything yet, but there is still time for you to learn.

^^ honestly, I am curious why you think that? Can you please explain in detail? Also, would you honestly tell someone that you hope someone throws a book at another person (whatever that means?) in court?

Btw the reason why I’m responding to this is because when you said, ”there is still time for you to learn” you kind of sounded like Obi-Wan Kenobi - I’m intrigued.

Thankfully, I had been warned about VA being a speed trap when we drive from TX to Philadelphia ( either I -81 or I-95). Although I am one of those who drives SLIGHTLY below the speed limit in the right lane as I am more relaxed and get better MPG. I guess I am an old foggie. LOL

If you’re in the right lane then that’s totally acceptable. People in VA absolutely LOVE to drive 10mph below the speed limit in the middle and left lane. And more often than not, they’ll slowly swerve in and out of lanes without using a blinker. It’s genuinely scary to drive here lol

Brettrcpt, if you truly have learned your lesson then stop calling it a "speed trap". The signs are clearly written in english and are the same design in every state. That being said, I do truly wish you the best of luck at court, I agree that jail time for speeding is a bit ridiculous unless there is a lot of traffic or something similar endangering people other than yourself.
