Default Gainsville I66 and Pentagon City

My family and I are relocating and I will be commuting to the pentagon. We are interested in homes in Gainsville, however I am concerned about the commute; ways to get to DC, travel time, etc…any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

66 is a nighmare. It will take you between 1-3 hours to get to work depending on the road/weather conditions. Your best option is find a place neear the Broad Run VRE station, have your employer give you MetroChecks (which can be redemed for VRE tickets). Parking at the VRE is free. By the way, the VRE will have stations in Gainesville and Haymarket in a few years. Here's the address of the Briad Ryb VRE station:

10637 Piper Lane
Bristow, Virginia 20136

PS. Virginia Railway Express Home Page is the VRE website.

It's a bit of a commute from Gainesville to DC, but is doable. Typically if you drive 66 to the Metro into DC it's 1.5 hrs. I think that from Gainesville to Pentagon willl be roughly the same amount of time or less via the VRE.

My hubby has ridden the VRE for the past 13 months. I think the service has improved. It was late a lot last summer. His only complaint is that he gets bored on the train. But that all comes to an end soon since he got a better job with a shorter commute.

What area of Gainesville are you looking at? Let me know if you have any more questions!
