Hello all,

My partner and I are moving to Ashburn at the end of the year. We are wondering if there are any LGBT accepting parishes that are in Northern Virginia. We will go to Arlington and DC if we must. We are leaving a very accepting parish and are looking for somewhere where we are all welcomed.

Thanks!

Our Lady Queen of Peace in Arlington VA - very accepting parish and parishioners. I would recommend the 1115 Mass (if you can make this time). They truly believe and support that all our welcome. Also, they seem to be VERY hands on with needs of our neighbors.

Due to the current political environment, I would have to add that the 1115 Mass might be considered a little 'left' (depending on where you start from). My conservative friends would want to walk out and my extreme left friends would find them mild.

People come from all around Northern Virginia to attend this parish. They in the process of improving the church so Mass may be held in the hall (not sure).

However, I believe you and your partner will be very pleased with this parish. Go to their website Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church - Arlington, VA - Home and read some of their past bulletins.

I’m not sure what is meant by LGBT friendly churches? Friendly as in all sinners are welcome or friendly as in homosexuality is not a sin? If you are looking at the former, then you would be accepted at most churches that identify as Christian. If you are looking at the latter, then very few churches who identify as Christian would accept that doctrine.

Homosexuality is not a sin in the Catholic Church. Sex outside of marriage, in any form, is the sin. The catechism of the Catholic Church calls for homosexuals to be chaste.

I’m not Catholic, but Christian. If you want to get technical, lusting after another person outside your marriage is a sin too. Now while the flesh has yet to be redeemed, fleshly lusts will continue to happen. The Christian life is a life of repentance. So yes, you can be a homosexual and be a Christian just as I’m a sinner in other ways and am a Christian. As a Christian though, we should not have the joyous attitude we once had toward sin. The process of sanctification is a lifelong process with many ups and downs. In the end, we are all hell deserving sinners.

What she said.

There are very few. I came from Austin and the Catholic Church here was a culture shock.
