Hi all, just moved to the area and wanted to get a feel for what people think for those who live around here and know the area...

I've been reading and seems that Manassas is getting mixed reviews for safety and crime rate.

What is everyone who has been living in the areas thoughts, or comments?

In particular near Wellington Place at Olde Town Apartments areas..

Haha, that's funny! But seriously.. Well, the lack of response should be telling.. Since no one else responded, I'll take a stab at it, but where should I start; I don't want to offend anyone. Lets just say Manassas doesn't have the best reputation. One of my friends used to live in Manassas and had a beautiful house, so I know there are nice areas in Manassas but personally, I would not want to live anywhere with a Manassas address. Overall, it just has a negative connotation.

I lived for a long time in Manassas-in excess of 12-13 years and it is fine. Just have some common sense and don't hang out around Georgetown South and Coverstone Apartments and you should be fine. The Wellington Place at Olde Town Apartments is in a decent area. Many people that live in Fairfax County or Loudoun County are negative towards Manassas as it is not as affluent etc. and is diverse. I wouldn't hesitate to live there again. I spent a lot of time walking the battlefield and enjoyed that very much.

Saw a used condom on the Wellington trail, the first time I walked through there. Glad my parents sold to an African couple last year. It is just a piece of the very tough DC housing market problem. There is a heavy price to be paid for living in an area that produces nothing but government jobs. I have bought 10 homes in my life, and Manassas would be far down the list for number 11. City of Manassas was marginally good for traffic, because everyone is trapped out on 28 and 66, and some marginally good drinking and eating...but nothing spectacular at all. Take out the bureacrats, the educrats, the overextended immigrant families violating every zoning law they can...and there is really nothing left.

OP. I lived in Haymarket then Manassas from 73-2014 so I know it very well. I worked in law enforcement for the county for 30 years and lived in Manassas City and within a couple miles of the apts you speak of. The area itself is a quiet and low crime area. As with any apt complex you'll see a slightly higher crime rate with the number of people there presenting more opportunities for thieves and so on but that place was never a hotbed of crime when we moved away. There are certain areas in Manassas I would advise people to not move to and that wasn't an area I included. One of my brothers and his wife lived there for a while. If you do not like living in an area with a decent Hispanic size population then don't move there but I believe you'll find neighbors who are jerks come in all colors and such. Easy access to pretty much everything you'd need from that area. As mentioned, 28 leaving Manassas towards Fairfax can be a PITA from early am to late evening.

BF, I suppose you moved to Shenandoah County for "diversity." And do you think the situation has actually improved in Manassas, since 2014? Did they brainwash you at the PD to not use the word MS-13? Were you told that rape and incest were simply a part of their "culture"?
