Beige? NoVA.
Taupe? NoVA.
Ecru? NoVA.

Daring to be different? RoVA.

Fredericksburg and Falmouth are not culturally NoVa -- that is where it ends. We hate DC down here, that's why we're here. I think there are more commonalities here with the rest of the Northern Neck than say Arlington or Fairfax, though we are still a part of the commuter belt, as mentioned above.

Wonder how many people from the NoVA forum go onto the Pittsburgh forum to throw shade at that city...

You'd have to understand the history of this poster.

NoVa contains McLean, which contains a toxic concentration of preposterous McMansions.

My definition of Northern Virginia:
  • All of Fairfax County
  • City of Fairfax
  • City of Falls Church
  • Arlington
  • City of Alexandria

This is video is my interpetation of the Northern Virginia area:

So, what do you consider Loudoun?

Also, in your video, when the average days on market increases, it's not a good indicator, so your arrow up should be black, not green.

I use the same consideration as the consumers I serve. Loudoun is Loudoun.

If a client approached me about relocating to the area and stipulating that they wanted to stay in "Northern Virginia", I would get fired if I showed them places as far out as Loudoun without them stating that Loudoun was okay. Or, the Loudoun area.

A lot of it depends on where you live. Since I live and predominantly work in the southern portion of Fairfax County, I don't know anyone in my area that doesn't view Loudoun as "out of town".

But, I have colleagues that work the Herdon/Reston market that definitely view Loudoun as "Northern Virginia".

The short answer is, the definition of Northern Virginia changes based on your location and proximity to the individual's definition of the center of the area.

While I agree that days on market is a good thing, the video is only displaying the direction of change using 3 data points. When we test reversing the days on market arrows, the end user was confused.

Thanks for giving me your feedback. I'm still looking at other ways to communicate market data in a short video format.

Idk, I definitely would consider Prince William County and Loudoun as Northern Virginia. Odd to exclude such a large population of the region.
