Default Middletown, any words of wisdom?

Hi everyone!

Does anyone live in or around Middletown? If I were looking for a home on about ohhh say 5 acres or so, what kind of prices are you looking at? Is it commutable to DC? Where does everyone work?

Any and all help is always so greatly appreciated!

ALS

To add to this...
grown kids
Have horses
fiance may be taking a job in Middletown
willing to commute up to 50 miles in any direction
willing to spend up to $250 must have at least 6 acres altho, fiance says at least 10 acres.
Not a big shopper but will need the usual, like a Walgreens, grocery store, maybe a health food store (not completely necessary)
Definitely need a tack and feed store and a good hay supplier (orchard or timothy hay)

hope this helps!

Andrea

There isn't much in Middletown as far as shopping, etc. Did you try realtor.com because I think $250 is a stretch for 6 acres. Anything on property is going to be considerably more money. It's a beautiful place and not far from Stephens City for shopping, etc. Strasburg is close by also, but I don't believe there is any major shopping there. But there will be a Rite Aid and food shopping.I think the closet mall might be Winchester.

You said you are willing to commute, but you didn't say for what kind of job. The traffic on Rte 66 into DC is horrendous. It's also about 85 miles to DC.

I would try to look west of Strasburg off of Rt 55 West out toward Star Tannery. That price-range may still be tough to come by though for the amount of land you want.....

Maybe go further south like Tom's Brook, Woodstock, Mt Jackson, etc....

Middletown itself seems to be expensive for the area for some reason. Nice, quaint little town though.... Where will your husband be working in Middletown??? Not much there....

Edit: Oh, just caught the "commutable to D.C. part". It's going to be a hike from this area for sure, but you can't go any closer to D.C. and have a prayer of getting what you want for the $$$ you want to spend.

Thanks everyone for the responses, the job is a potential - he's got an interview coming up, we are just trying to plan ahead JUST in case.
We were so hoping to end up in NC or SC just because we are both very familiar with the areas down there but to that the cost of homes and land is a lot less expensive. I'm sure if we do end up in VA, we will love it and make due. We have friends down there and come down quite a bit to visit WAY out in the country LOL
