I know there was a similar thread about a week ago but it didn't quite hit on what I was wondering.

Does anyone know what the metro/bus commute would be like from Alexandria/Arlington into Fort Belvoir? I do not have a car right now and I am trying to figure out if I need one if I were to be working at Fort Belvoir but living in Alexandria or Arlington. Because the blue line is closed south of Reagan, Google Maps etc. won't tell me how long the commute would be once the line is reopened. I have had hour plus commutes before, and while not ideal, it is also not a deal breaker.

How long would it take to get to Fort Belvoir from say the Kings Street Metro Station going to Franconia?

What you want is the REX bus (Richmond Highway Express) that starts at King Street Metro Station and goes to Fort Belvoir. It takes about 55 minutes from King Street to the Ft. Belvoir PX. See https://www.wmata.com/schedules/time...REX_170625.pdf

Getting around without a car is pretty straightforward if you get to know the local bus options.
https://www.wmata.com/schedules/maps...m-Map-2018.pdf is a great reference.

While the metro stations are closed down, Metro has been running free buses. I've been using the Pentagon Express that runs to/from Springfield/Franconia. The service has been excellent and if you count waiting times between trains in the morning, close to as fast as the regular metro run and way more comfortable.

There's a free Blue Line shuttle bus that services all the blue line stations except Braddock Road. That has an interactive live tracker. busETA

I did the rex thing.. definately the way to go but familirze yourself with the dash and other other bus options.

Where you might get caught up however is once you get on base you will have a crucial walk depending on where you are working. I think you need one ... just to get around that large base. If your not keen on a lot of new debt maybe buy something cheap and get a parking pass through your work location. Take the bus to base and walk to your car... keep the wear and tear down.

there are shuttles...
