And add in easy access to top notch culture (we're doing a Kennedy Center subscription this year), great restaurants and museums.....it really doesn't get better.

Sorry you don't like it; thst's ok. But because it doesn't meet your taste doesn't make it a cess pool.
That actually sounds like a nightmare. Plus you actually don't live in NOVA if you're in the country and driving 1.5 hours into work. I had that option too. Could have worked in Gainesville and moved out to Front Royal or something and driven an hour. But I would have been in the cesspool all day all week. You consider driving 2 hours "easy access?". That's a mini vacation. I'm only 2-2.5 hours from DC now. I lived and worked in the DC area for way too long. It's a truly horrific place to live. Especially if you don't have a job that pays $250k+.

Maybe it's the right place for you. I'm sure glad I moved to the Shenandoah Valley though. It destroys the DC area in every single aspect. That's why suburbanites come here to visit, and those if us who live here wouldn't be caught dead anywhere near DC
So many people are jealous are living in the middle of nowhere just to brag about being near Luray Caverns. . Okay bud, whatever helps you sleep better at night.

And nope, people like myself are okay with where we're at. Plenty of things to do, can go enjoy shows and concerts, yet still not directly in the city nor in the boonies of West Virginia.

It is overpriced, you def got that right.

Haha when you put it that way, it's hard to disagree with that especially the random influx of all the hipsters invading NOVA these days.

Someone people like tripping over people everywhere they walk. I don't. I was just asking what those big NOVA advantages were.

NOVA=Sitting in a financed luxury car for 1.5 hours to get to a job you despise so you can pay for a home you can't afford.
Well you aren’t short on opinions!

One thing you seem to not consider is jobs. I don’t want to live in a town or city that depends on one factory that can close down or one industry that can dip at any moment. I lived in Houston where the economy lives and dies on oil and gas revenues. I saw all my college friends lose their jobs because of first in-first out. I love a lot about NoVa but I especially love the job diversity.

I can't dispute that you can fall out your front door and hit a job up there. I have a job working for the state her in Staunton now. I made sure to secure a guaranteed job before I up and left my last job. But I got to a point where I'd rather be living in the sticks and working at Walmart. I could make $30k at Walmart. That's the equivalent to $150k in NOVA in some areas.

I didn't mind NOVA when I was younger. Back when you could drive to Georgetown and find a parking space. That was 25 years ago though. It's just gotten worse and worse.

I grew up here, and I agree. I remember the days when I could go from DC to Fairfax on a Saturday and it'd be a quick 30 min, trafficless drive. Nowadays, HA!

But meh sorry, I'd still take it over being in the country for now. Perhaps my attitude will change in 15 years.

So, yes, I am in NoVA; and in the country, too. I live in Middleburg (Loudoun Co.) and will say it is probably more "country" than where you live, because I don't have a big box store or fast food chain within 20 minutes of my house (and I think that is great!) It takes my about an hour 15 minutes in the morning to get downtown; and about an hour 30 to get home in the evening. On a normal weekend, I can get to the city in an hour, so, yes, I consider that an "easy" access for museums, theater, etc.

Look, it is not for everyone. But I feel I get the best of both worlds. A fantastic job in a thriving urban environment; and the ability to decompress is a gorgeous bucolic setting of horse farms and vineyards. Yes, a longer commute than I would prefer; but totally worth it for getting everything else.

(And by the way, I am rarely "sitting" in traffic; as that would be (I agree) soul crushing. My commute is long, but generally moving at speed.)

I have everything I'd ever want within 15-30 minutes. 40 minutes gets me to Charlottesville, which is NOVA Jr.
