Question Need rural area but access to Manassas - where?

Hi. I'm a southern VA native looking at a traveling job that would require me to visit Manassa and Tappahannock (sp?) once a week. Every other week, I'd visit the Charlottesville/Culpeper areas, with some visits to southwestern VA every month or so. I sort of need to be "centrally located", but with the regular visits to Manassas I know I can't be but so far away from there.

Ideally I'd like a home on 1+ acre, <$200,000, and @ 1hr to Mannassa and @ 1 hr to Tap. Can anyone recommend an area that would suit me? Lousa? Anyone driving to Manassas from south of I64? And yes, I know this may be impossible to find! :-)

Thanks!

Gosh, that sounds like an interesting job. The most centrally located places to where you describe would be in places like Orange, Gordonsville, Ruckersville, Locust Grove, Madison... you might also just want to check out Culpeper itself as that's pretty central to Manassas/Charlottesville/Tappahannock.

You should be able to fit your price and acreage requirements in any of the above, provided you're not in the actual town of Culpeper.

Default Rural but closs to Manassas?

Displaced Hokie-
Hi. Sounds like a great job. I grew up in Manassas, moved to Front Royal (45 min west), moved again to Winchester (1 hour west up 66) and am now in West VA. If you want rural and about an hour from Manassas I would check areas such as the outskirts of Winchester, Linden, Front Royal, Strasburg, Toms Brook, and even Woodstock may be about an hour. Basically checking all the little towns along the 66 West to 81 area...easy access. I would even venture up 28 from Manassas such as Bealton, Remington, and Calverton.
The more expensive places will be close to Manassas, such as Haymarket, Gainesville, Amissville and places like that. The further out the less expensive and more rural. I am currently in Hampshire County WV...about an hour and half from Manassas and EXTREMELY rural but the cost of living is very good. Average 2500 sq. ft/4+ bed/3+ ba/2+ acres runs about $250k. A friend of mine has a house for sale 3 bd/2.5 ba/2+acres for $199,000.
Another nice place outside Front Royal and accessable from 211 is Little Washington (Rhappahonock County) but this may be a little more than an hour.
Hope this helps!
What part of Southern VA are you from? We are considering a move to Cumberland, Va.
