Default Relocating

We are a military family moving from the FL panhandle to NoVA this summer and looking at the Ashburn area for housing. We have three kids 15, 11, and 5 so schools are important.

My husband will be working in Herndon and I hope to find a job there as well.

Thanks in advance for any advice (info) parted our way.

I am not familiar with Herndon so have not advice to offer on that area but one site I would recommend you look at is militarybyowner.com They have homes for sale and as well as rentals. Some are "by owner" but others are with agents. It is a great site..
Good luck!

Ashburn is a great family area. Tons of kids excellent schools, lots of activites etc...
since the job is in Herndon you have other options if you need to widen your search.
Cascades in Sterling (potomac falls HS)
Leesburg area nice historic downtown, housing is cheaper than Ashburn.
Purceville (although this will put you at about 45 minutes for commute)

Thank you both for your help. I hope Ashburn is for us; we come from a small town and I'm told our kids are a little sheltered. However, I will certainly keep the other areas in mind...just in case.

Hi Caromc
We moved to Ashburn not that long ago and we love it. I have toddler twins and have found several parks to be perfect for them to play and the walking trails are wonderful. Lots of housing choices in terms of singles, townhomes, and condos. Prices have fallen so getting more affordable. (although, half a million for a single is still crazy, but at least some singles are now in the $450 and up range)
There are several areas that make up Ashburn...There is Ashburn Village, Ashburn Farm, the Broadlands, and I believe Brambelton is considered Ashburn. We chose the Farm as that is where we found the house we liked best. And I liked the walking trails there...the Village was a contender for us, but found the Farm to be a bit more...I don't know what the word is...maybe mature.
Anyway, good luck. I enjoy it here and hope you do too

Hi twinmma,

Thank you for confirming my suspicions. We have been looking online and I have settled on Ashburn Farm. I have read good things about this place and for the most part that the schools are safe. I do realize that we may end up in a TH but hey there is a first time for everything right.

May I ask with what real estate agent you worked with?

Hey you...your post started sounding familiar! We are here and somewhat settled in. I was driving around the other day looking at places near Herndon, thinking about you. If there is someplace you want me to check out I can do that. I start work on Fort Belvoir on 1 May, but we get over to that area on the weekends.

I will send you a private message...you know how to check that? I don't want to just put out the realtor info to just everyone, lol! (she doesn't need the prank calls!) She is very nice and lives in the area. There are some great deals to be had here in the Farm. May I ask your price range? (I am obsessed with real estate, not a realtor just like it, lol, and I follow a lot of what is for sale in the Farm.

Mr. Mark is on a distinguished road
Hello There - TwinMma is right about Ashburn. It is a great community. I'm also glad to see that she is referring her agent to you. As a Realtor, we always hope that we do a great job so our clients will refer us.

You may also want to check out South Riding as an alternate community that is also relatively close to Herndon (off Loudoun County Parkway & Route 50).

Personally I like the Brambleton Town Center area for investment purposes if you plan to live in VA for more than 5 years. Once the Town Center is completed it should have high demand & good appreciation over time similar to Reston Town Center.

twinmma,

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply, did I mention we have three kids? Between appt's, school activities and overall homework , not to mention full time job, lets just say I've lost my mind. Thank you for the agent info, I plan on contacting her soon. Our price range? I guess we are looking to keep it under 350. As I said before I realize that will put us in a smaller TH, but I think its doable, wouldn't you say?

Mr. Mark,

Since we are active duty I'm not sure how long we will be in the area. However it is always nice to have a back-up plan, thank you. Is Brambleton Town Center in the LC school district?

Thanks again for your willingness to help.
