Condo in artsy town for weekend escapes
I'm looking for an artsy town no more than two hours from Alexandria where I work. I'm hoping to buy a condo for quiet weekend retreats from
the DC area. I'm trying to find either a small, artsy-crafty town with nice
restaurants, galleries (I do watercolors), or space on the edge of a larger
area (like Charlottesville) where I can enjoy the artistic flavor of an area.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm already considering Annapolis, but because it's on the water, it may be way expensive. Wish the mountains had some cute towns like NC has Blowing Rock.

Try West Virginia, there are several artsy towns within 2 hours: Harpers Ferry, Shepherdstown, Berkeley Springs. Homesdatabase.com will have listings you can search.

why not charlottesville itself?
New Hope PA is a wonderful artsy town, it's north of Philly. Lots of art galleries and resturants etc...It's very beautiful sits right on the Delaware river... but it's a bit over 3 hours and with traffic more like 3.5-4.
New Hope, PA
Frederick MD is growing nicely, but it still seems like DC area to me.
Gettysburg is a very neat town
Delaware area...expensive but you may find a place in Rohobeth or Lewes
Good luck

New Hope is a VERY artsy town - you must be tolerant of alternate lifestyles to like it there.
Also - I think it takes about 3 or 4 hours to get there.
