I remember locking gas tanks and also sitting in very long lines trying to get gas.

I forget - How much was gas during the "gas shortage" of the 70's?

It hit over a $1.00 in the 70's. Remember whether you were "even" or "odd"?

When I was a kid in the late '50s, early '60s, we vacationed on Nantucket Island every summer. We used to marvel at the price of gas out on that island...tanker trucks had to haul it out on the ferry from the mainland.

It was 75 cents a gallon out there...which was almost THREE TIMES what it was on the mainland! Us kids used to pose for pictures under the gas station price signs....

Because nobody back home would ever believe it!

I remember one time, not too long ago, back in my hometown of Hampton, people freaked out when gas was $1.25-1.35. Now Hampton and Portsmouth has some of the cheapest gas in the country. A station in Virginia Beach has gas for $3.23 today. It's sad that today that price is a BARGAIN.

This is why i think we should push for alternative energy. Gas aint gonna last forever.

Alternative energy is nice, but IMHO, its decades away from becoming mainstream.

People have to learn to conserve.
Make less trips, live closer to work, etc.

I think short term we are gonna see more smaller cars coming to the market.
Cars such as Smart from MB, yaris, etc.
