Default Fairfax

Fairfax county schools website has all the demographics of the students in their school. When we were shopping for homes, I would put in the address before we even looked at the home. We were uncomfortable moving into a neighborhood where there weren't upwards of 10% black children (that were scoring well on standardized tests). Despite Northern Virginia being pretty diverse overall, there are plenty of neighborhoods with a small amount of black people. We did not want to live in a neighborhood like that. Most neighborhoods with a significant number of black people in your price range are in Maryland, not northern virginia.

I agree completely I wouldn't want to move in a district where the school system wasn't good, I have a 6 yr old and schools is on the top of our list. I'm not looking for a neighborhood with a significant amount of blacks/white/Hispanic it doesn't matter safety is important to us and we would rather stay in Northern Virginia not particular interesting in MD.

Smart move, IMO. There aren't many ways to cross the Potomac, so traffic really backs up if you live in across the river.

We are looking for something between 600k-700k for a SFH with parks and playgrounds an activities. We are also looking for a deverse community somewhere were we feel safe not being judge by the color of or skin or content. We are working americans with high standards and morales and would like to feel safe in or neighborhood. This will be our first move to the east/southern area and we have heard alot about racial tension in the Virginia rural upscale areas. Or main goal is to be in a safe enviroment. If anyone have any advice on where to start looking it would be appreciated. Also do anyone know of any culture activities and entertainment for our family there.

Thank You
What racial tension did you hear about? The only tension I am aware of is the illegal immigration issue in this area. I've lived in the area off and on for 30 years and haven't really seen much racial tension. Maybe if you moved out in the sticks, but there really isn't any "sticks" areas left in Northern Va.

Ashburn is snooty. If you can deal with that, it is otherwise very nice.

Do you have kids? You definitely want to look at the schools in the areas you are looking in. I hear a lot of talk about Reston and Herndon but I would be wary of the schools there, at least some of them.

From my experience, areas with poor schools tend to have a very shady neighboring enviornment with higher crime. Is this the case in VA as well?
