Question Need Recommendations--HVAC Repair Co. in Arlington

During official "Water Cooler Conversation" today at the office, my manager told me that she had an HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) technician come to her townhouse today...

well he quoted her $7,000 to repair, not replace, a single-floor Air Conditioning system! And this is just one of the simpler one-wall units...it is not like it is a whole house central air.

Since that price seems a little steep, I was wondering if any of you from the Arlington, VA area can recommend an HVAC company that you have dealt with before. I know there are friendly and honest ones, but at the same time there are others that will charge as much $$ as possible.

Thanks for your help--I really appreciate it

We live in Arlington and have been happy with the service we've received from Mann-in. I think they're based in Chantilly. We chose them because they received very good ratings in both quality and cost in Consumer Checkbook. We just got an estimate from them for a new heat pump installation (~$6,000).

Thanks for the recommendation, ArlingtonChris!

I never knew about Consumer Checkbook before...seems like the perfect resource for researching local contractors like this. I don't have a membership to the site, but it sounds like it might be worth getting one.

Does anyone else have experience with HVAC Contractor for the Arlington area?

speaking of HVAC repairs, one pro in Fairfax area wanted to replace my blower motor for 700.

I did it in two hours for 300 in just parts

you gotta watch out with these people, its freaking nuts.

Default We just had our HVAC system replaced and were happy with...

McCrea heating and cooling. They have been our service company for quite sometime but I called around to several places to get estimates and no one could come close to their price. We installed Carrier units and they happened to have a pretty large rebate at the time.

My advice....call at least 3 companies if not more for estimates. We actually had companies come out to give us estimates but never followed up and sent us anything or returned phone calls.

Good Luck!
