I started my house hunt couple of month back and I was pretty much decided on Manassas Park ( east of 28, off Manassas Dr. near golf course). After going though this forum, I decided to look in Bristow (linton hall road) instead.

Wife and I both work in DC and Old Town Alexandria, and don't mind the VRE ride. I saw some nice Engle homes for 400k, Is the price worth it, or am I still paying more?

Can I find similar houses some where close by to the DC area. Price is pretty much fixed Max 420K. Need SFH with basement and nice yard.

Thanks

You can find a SFH with a nice yard and basement within your budget closer to DC than Bristow, but it will not be new. It will be an older home. Is a new home in Bristow worth it? Only you can answer that based on your priorities and how much value you place on the time, cost and stress of having a long commute.

You are going to commute from Bristow to Old Town Alexandria?

VRE is nice, but can you really rely on it?

Cause thats one HELL of a drive, I tell you that much.

You didn't say lot size of square footage. IMHO, 400K in Bristow would be a huge mistake. would look in 22152; Springfield. Much, much closer.

Bristow is mostly new now. Wait a few years, and it will be just another vinyl siding PW County dump.

If our friend can find a new construction single family house in Springfield 22152 for 400k, I'd say jump at it too. It's not going to happen, though.

Bristow's actually not "new" anymore, it's been around for more than 10 years as a series of planned communities. Still very nice. Great schools. Don't believe the "PW County dump" crap, it's just not so.

From what I've been told VRE has become very reliable in the past couple of years, after several years of turmoil regarding on time rates. I certainly wouldn't think VRE would be less reliable than Metro these days.

And yeah, I'd choose Bristow over the new developments going up in Manassas Park. That area's going to be a total zoo when everyone moves in and tries to get around.

Welcome, in advance, to Prince William County!

If it's Engle homes you are looking at.. is it the pool option that attracted you?

Yup, that's the neighborhood I was thinking of. There's a sign out by the model home that mentions the pool incentive. I don't remember what it says exactly.

^I've been to that model home. It has a great layout and the exterior has been redesigned and looks nothing like the existing model. Nice home but the builder only has a few communities none of which are closer to DC.
