Might be Moving to N. VA
The job is in McLean, however, the Washington DC area is very expensive. It's about 30% higher than where I currently reside. My guess is I need to live somewhere other than Fairfax county, but I am getting conflicting information.
Winchester seems nice, but FBI stats show a crime problem.
Chantilly seems to be right on top of the airport and the only other area I've been able to read about is Reston.
I'll live up to 60 mi away from DC an commute if I can find a "safe" place to live for my 2-yr old. Any suggestions is appreciated. Looking for a nice suburban area, quiet (as fas as that goes).
House in the $300k to $400k rang max too. Trying to gather as much info as possible prior to an interview on Monday.

I would not commute from Winchester to McLean. The crime problem you are referring to is probably in Winchester City, not the county. Most people don't realize they are not one in the same.

I just moved to Aldie and I love it. It is nice and quiet, but also has a lot of suburban conveniences and excellent schools. There are some planned communities like Stoneridge and South Riding that may have homes in your price range. Many of our neighbors commute to Herndon/reston and it takes about 30 min. Tysons would probably be 45min to 1 hr. But it is a nice place to live if you can handle that commute or have flexibility with your hours.

I believe the places I saw were in Fredrick County, which I presume means the city of, not the county.

I commuted 45-50 minutes for my past job, so I'm willing to trade commute time for a nicer place to live.
How soon are Stoneridge and South Riding going to be completed. If this all comes to pass, I'd expect to be moving within the next 30 days.

I don't live in either of those two communities so I don't know the exact status of construction, but I see that they are still definately building. The builders I see active are Van Metre and Toll Brothers. If you are moving in 30 days i'm sure you could get a resale or possibly a spec home.

Check zip codes 20105 and 20152. In your price range it would likely be a townhome, but a newer, very nicely appointed townhome. If you can bump up to low 400s you can probably get a smaller sized, but newer construction SFH.

I noticed that very quickly, that most of the listings are townhomes. The $400k is the upper end of my limit. You are correct they are very nice. Just need to decide if that's the way I want to go.
I will check those zip codes thanks.

Hubby's new job is in McLean and we live in Gainesville (zip code is 20155). You can also try Bristow (20136). Can definitely get a house in your price range in this area. I've seen a spurt of sales lately in my neighborhood.
