Default How is this area of Burke?

We found a listing in burke that would be great for our family, but when I googled it, it appears to be on a side street, across the street from a townhouse development and spitting distance from a shopping center...
Is this house too good to be true?

Here is the map...
6360 TORRENCE DRIVE, burke, va - Google Maps

Anyone know if this street is high travel? We have ,soon to be, 5 children 8 and under and are due to be transferred in July with Fed. Govt.
Many Thanks!!

I think any part of Burke or West Springfield is very nice for families. We moved to the area last year and are very pleased. That house is very close to the Pohick Regional Library, which is very nice. The South Run Rec Center is very close by too. There is a good amount of traffic at that intersection (Old Keene Mill and Lee Chapel Rd) and as a pedestrian you should be careful, but I don't think your children will be in danger since the house is not on that main road.

We had friends that lived just north of there on Scorpio ct in a rental.
It's a nice area lots of families, and she was VERY pleased with the elementary.
Her husband commuted to the pentagon and used both the VRE and Metro..govt gives our vouchers.
There is alot to do and Burke Lake park is close. It's very a pretty area
Her only compliant was that the area was very transient and so as soon as you got to know one of your neighobs they were transfered out.
Torrence does look to be a bit of a cut through street though.

here's one in the same area but looks to be in a "quietier" street...

Don't know too much about that particular street but we just rented a house off Burke Lake Rd that is also zoned for White Oaks. We heard so many great things about that school and were so excited when we finally found a rental in that area. Most of the houses in Burke Center are zoned for Terra Center and we realy wanted White Oaks. Is your 5 year old starting kindergarten this fall? We also have a 5 year old and 3 year old, both boys. Good luck with your move! We'll be there in about 4 weeks!

I live in W. Springfield and have used Torrence occasionally. It can serve as a cut-through between Shipplett and Old Keene Mill Rd and the two shopping centers at each end, Rolling Valley mall and Burke Town Plaza. I have never noticed a great amount of traffic there, but it is definitely not a quiet street for kids to play in. With a newly-installed traffic light at Torrence and Old Keene Mill, access from Torrence to OKM is much improved. I suspect, too, that the new signal has served to reduce the numbers using Torrence from Burke Town Plaza to access OKM via Shipplett. I used to do this because at times it was very difficult to turn left onto OKM from Torrence, expecially in the late afternoon/early evening. The general community is great. The homes are well kept. The amenities (stores, schools, service stations, parks) within a mile of that location are significant.
