Default Moving to the Dulles area NV

My husband will be relocated to the Dulles area in Northern Virginia. It is very costly to live right in that area. Which surrounding areas are more cost friendly......Rent wise.

We rented an apartment for a few months until we moved into our new home and we did this in Ashburn, the Archstone apartments. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath with one car garage for $1400 a month. That was pretty good considering how expensive things are around here.
Good luck.
Oh, and that apartment is only like 5 minutes from the Dulles Town Center Mall, so kind of perfect for the area you need.

Maybe rent a townhouse in 20165 (Countryside--Sterling) for close to 1500.

Ashburn and Cascades in Sterling and South Riding are the more expensive areas around Dulles. If these are too expensive for you, the closest "nicer" place I'd recommend is Countryside, it's a bit older but has good schools(if you need that).
Go out abit futher along rt7 15-20minutes from Dulles and prices drop. Leesburg has some very nice neighborhoods and good schools, low crime etc...

What is your price range? size? how far a commute? commute times? schools?

You can head out to PWC and it is even more affordable Manassas being the most affordable, probably more traffic into Dulles. it's easy direct shot up 28 but that get loads of traffic.. Haymarket, Gainsville area has good school and low crime and is cheaper than Ashburn. The commute would also have more traffic going into Dulles but you can problaby find side roads etc...

Warrenton is pretty far out but a nice town, I have NO IDEA waht the commute into Dulles would be though.

We don't have children so schools are not an issue. I really don't have a cut-off of what I'm willing to pay for a decent place to live. But I don't want to pay way above and beyond it being necessary.

I just found out this evening that my best friends townhouse will be available. It is in sterling and she said she would rent it to me for $1600.
So everything has fallen into place. It is very big too, nice deck fenced in
backyard. So I guess I really lucked out. It is just a few minutes from where we will work. So the extra money we will pay will be worth it considering the others places had commutes at 45 minutes or more.

The house we own is in Florence,SC so it will be really nice to be able to drive down there.

Thanks to all who answered, the info was helpful.

One other question I would like to ask is......Is it true that people are very snobby in northern VA. I heard it was really bad. Someone told me there was a sign up there somewhere that actually said, "Welcome to ? if you're not rich you're not welcome!" Is this true?

And are there any couples around 35 to 50 in the sterling area who would be interested in meeting new people. Friends are always a must lol.

If you're renting, Ashburn could be a fantastic deal right now.

One good way to make new friends is to join a club. Sterling Playmakers is a fun group. There are plenty of sports teams and meet-up groups, too. I personally liked meeting friends to go kayaking. Toastmasters is very big in Nova. Also, churches are a good way to make friends.

Welcome to Virginia.
