My girlfriend and I are considering relocating to northern Virginia but don't know a lot about the area. We're in our mid-20s, and from our research it looks like Reston and Arlington are decent places for young professionals. Can anyone recommend specific apartment/condo/townhome complexes? What other areas should we be considering?

Until she gets a job our budget is probably $1500-$1800 a month for rent. I'll be working near Tysons Corner and would like to keep my commute < 40 minutes. Ideally we'd get a 2 bedroom place, but a 1 bedroom with a den would probably work too. Our most difficult criteria is finding a place that will accommodate our dog. We have a 3 month old husky (house broken) that we hope will stay under 50 pounds (since that seems to be the max. weight for a lot of complexes). Because of him, places with yards or convenient access to trails and parks would be at the top of our list.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I work in Tysons and live in the Court House section of Arlington, your price range will easily afford you a 1-2 bedroom apartment (depending on the complex) in most nearby communities. I personally recommend Arlington because it has TONS of people our age, great restaurants/bars, and very close to DC.

You can try renting a condo directly from the owner. McLean Gates, Fountains of McLean, Lillian Courts are some the condo communities nearby. You can probably find a one-bedroom/den for $1500.
