Yes, five-lined skinks. I have lived in warmer regions where geckos are common. They often run around on the walls or ceiling of rooms inside. They are hunting bugs. Although skinks will sometimes enter a building, they prefer being outside. They don't have the sticky foot pads that allow geckos to defy gravity.

Years ago, I used to let my cats roam outside. They would try to catch skinks. The tail of the skink will often drop off if a predator tries to catch them. The detached tail will thrash around and wiggle while the skinks gets away. The cats were fascinated, I was kind of grossed out.

My ES students found a tail during recess last week.
