Help! Just received word that I need to relocate by end of summer. I will be working off of N. Beaurgard St. and based on google maps it does not appear I will have the luxury of the subway or bus. Please correct me if this is wrong as I have no idea about the DC metro area.

I need help/advice/tips on where to live. Currently I am young 30's, single, female (so no "rough" neighborhoods please )and not looking for roommates. I live in NYC right now and pay $1500 for 1bd/1ba and commute 40 miles/day. So anything that reduces both those factors is music to my ears. My apt now is 7 blocks to the nearest subway, so walking is not a factor (as long as the neighborhood is safe). Where I work in NJ is VERY rural, which is why I live in NYC. I love the fact that there is life outside my apt when I leave and come home from work. I love the fact that I can pop into the corner store for a sandwhich, the local pub after a rough day, or hop onto mass transit to hit another part of town. I forget I own a car on the weekends. I'm not much of one who goes out partying during the week anymore, but it is still nice to have restaurant/ cafe options.

Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Oh, I see where that is.. It looks like you will be working in Alexandria. You should live over on King Street if you like to be close to home and have nice places to go. Check it out when you get back.

I think Old Town Alexandria sounds perfect for you. Close to Metro, lots of restaurants. I think there's a bus that goes from King St. to N. Beauregard, but I'm not positive about that.
