I am looking to buy a men's leather bag like the one in this link:

Briefcase Medium Dark Coffee Brown - SADDLEBACK LEATHER CO. leather bags | leather briefcases | leather backpacks | leather suitcases

but for a couple hundred dollars cheaper. That site calls them briefcases, but I am not sure if that is the common term for that type of bag.

I think another name is a messenger's bag. I want one with that has a flap over top, with a long shoulder strap, and can hold a pair of shoes, my lunch, and some work that I might have to take home from time to time.

I live in Alexandria, VA, so something within 20 to 30 miles preferably.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

If you don't mind buying online, you might want to check out Luggage, Backpacks, Purses & More - Great Prices - eBags I've bought a few items from them for myself and my husband with very good results.

You could search some malls, I know our mall has a leather store, with nothing but leather coats, pocket books, and bags. Outlet malls are a good source too.

I was in the Fair Oaks JCPenney over the weekend and noticed two nice leather bags, one a toffee brown like your picture and the other darker. Each was marked down from $200 to 100.

Post get the best

You should definitely get a bag from saddlebackleather if you want the best.
You would be crazy not to get it from them besides I've looked everywhere for one as nice as the one they have and couldn't find any like it. And what they call a messenger bag is definitely a messenger bag.

I got a great leather soft briefcase at Ross in Old Town Alexandria. It has lasted for years and still looks great, and the price was very good. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend. Though I didn't spend a lot, I don't feel like I got junk.

There is also a Wilson's Leather at the outlet mall in Leesburg which might be worth a look -- they are online as well. I've also purchased from eBags and my wife and I have both been satisfied with what we got.

i recommend saddle back as well. I have the medium briefcase it is great for outdoors. if you want something a bit more tailored and refined i'd go with JPMarcellino.com. they do custom and all handmade. here is a cool bag. they call it the thomas more

i don't know about ebags, i had some issue on returning a bag, they really made it a hassle.

cheers

Coach is NOT high quality. It's for tourists who flock to "factory" stores for the brand name. If you are going to go that route, at least get Tumi.

Saddleback merchandise very tough and made with high quality materials (I have bags, wallets, iPad case from the company). However, the cost of that durability -- aside from cost -- is weight. Their bags are fairly heavy.

Also, their leather, stitching and workmanship are not what one might call "refined." They make bags that are meant to be used in rough conditions, and the wear and tear improve the looks. They are made in Mexico.
