How bad is the commute from Leesburg to Reston? We just bought a SFH in Leesburg since we couldn't afford Ashburn's prices and Leesburg has more activities for children.

For our commute to reston, seems like we'll have to take the Greenway (which is expensive), but I would like to know how bad Rt. 7 - Rt.28 are in the mornings, around from 7 to 8 a.m. Are there any other alternative routes we could take?

It'll be about 30minutes.
Rt7 isn't that bad at 7am, 6:45 it's good. 7:30 it's bad. But even in heavy traffic if you hit the lights right it won't be too bad.
Once the fly over at Battlefiled is done that will elimate those two lights that cause the backup beofre the rt 15 bypass. (that area is more of a probelm for your evening commute than morning and you can easily bypass it)

Where in Reston are you going to? where in Leesburg will you live.

From Leesburg NE EAST.... you can avoid some of rt7 (if it's really backed up) by taking River creek to Riverside PKY to Janella and rt7 (in ashburn) but this is a speed trap so watch your speed etc...

From the south WEST side of town...
you can take Evergreen mill to Loudoun county pky to waxpool to 28.

There are alot of backroads etc... but rt7 is the most direct and isn't too bad before 7:30am

We're around Battlefield Parkway NE, I think the area is also called Potomac crossing (not sure though). Our destination is Sunset hills Road, near Reston town Centre.

Thanks for the tip on taking Riverside Pkwy, that sounds very practical. How about Rt. 28? Should we take Rt. 28 or just continue on Rt. 7 and then get off on Reston Pkwy?

Thank you so much for your helpful reply
