Default Alexandria Area Apartments

My wife and I are deciding if we will move to the Alexandria area, if I decide to take a job at the U.S. Patent Office. We will probably rent an apartment while we look for a home or townhouse. I realize that housing is quite expensive in the area. We have a well-tempered lab mix that is part of the family. Can anyone suggest 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath apartments close to the Metro Blue or Yellow lines (since I plan on using public transportation) that are "pet-friendly" and secure? I guess anywhere along the Metro line would work if the commute isn't too long. Having a washer/dryer would be a plus.

Default Alexandria Apartments

I used to live at Park Place Van Dorn. They allow dogs and have a fenced in dog play area. Or at least they did a couple of years ago. A number of residents have dogs - but you do have to pay an extra monthly fee. Park Place Van Dorn is located less than a mile from the Van Dorn stop on the Blue Line, and has both a free shuttle bus and a Fairfax Connector bus stop within a couple of hundred yards from the complex. If you look it up on a map, it is located between Alexandria and Kingstowne, right where the Beltway intersects with Van Dorn Street.

Pretty much anywhere near Landmark Mall would be a great fit. You can take a selection of buses to the PTO which would be a short commute from Landmark.

There's also a lot in Carlyle (right where the PTO is). Parts are closer to the King Street Metro, while the other side is closer to Eisenhower (yellow), but the entire area is walkable. I remember seeing that the places closer to Eisenhower were a little cheaper, but the area around there seems very nice.

Maybe check into renting from an owner in Carlyle Towers. I know that complex is very pet-friendly and has a dog park right next to it. It's right next to PTO and has a secure entrance. Very safe area as well.
