Hi, I'm a mid-20s female moving from my current place in Old Town. I've been to Pentagon City mall frequently, and was just wondering how the area is residentially in terms of safety. Obviously, there is more likely to be petty theft, etc. near the mall, but in terms of more serious crime? I'm looking at Pentagon Row, and also in Crystal City a bit. Any advice?
Thank you!

Very safe. I live in Pentagon City and walk home from the Metro at late hours all the time. Never had a problem. There's usually police cars sitting on Joyce right near Pentagon Row so that might signal to criminals to go elsewhere. The biggest problem you hear about around here seems to be GPS thefts from cars, when people leave them out in plain sight (duh).

Crystal City seems very safe to me too, but I don't have much personal experience walking there at night.

Both areas are safe. I worked in Pentagon City for many years and was never scared walking to the metro late at night. My husband lived in Crystal City when he was single and liked it. It is easily accessible to everything whether you drive or take metro.

I was going to ask for opinions on the Crystal City area and found this old post. Thought I would bump it instead of posting a new thread.

Is pretty safe still the case?

Thank you!

I often walked home from the metro late at night in Crystal City, and never once had any problems. If anything, it's becoming nicer.

I bartended in crystal city about 3 years ago and would often be walking around the area at 2am. I never had a problem, always felt safe and there always seemed to be at least one cop around.

Pentagon City/Crystal City are extremely safe for an urbanized area.

There was an as yet unsolved murder outside the World Market in Pentagon Row several years ago.

Pentagon City Shooting Baffles Family

But even with that, when you consider the density and the proximity to shopping, which attracts all types of people from all over, esp. given the metro access, it is a safe area.
