Question Centreville/Chantilly- where not to live?

I'm looking for a condo or townhouse in Centreville or Chantillyas part of my house hunt. Any advice on good/bad developments to choose? I'm worried that the townhouses I'm finding in my price range are in places I won't want to live. (I lived in Centreville about 5 years ago but lived near Lifetime Fitness and pretty much stayed in that area.)

Is London Towne/ London Towne West a not-so-great spot or is it okay, just older? What about Stonehenge?

As far as Chantilly goes, I'm completely clueless beyond shopping along rt. 50. Any suggestions for that area?

Thanks for any advice!

I'll assume you're buying. "Mike from Back East" has made a lot of posts about the Chantilly area so do a search for his posts and Chantilly.

I rent in Chantilly Park, the new condo complex near 50 and Centreville Rd (where the KMart and Lowe's are). It's ok but overpriced in my opinion- 3BRs go for $360K, plus the condo fees are $385/mo. We are moving out in a few weeks and buying a home in Loudoun.

There are a lot of THs for sale in Winding Brook, off of 50 near Lee's Corner Rd. Too many in my opinion- something must be going downhill there. But prices start around $310 for 3BR THs. HOA is over $100/mo.

I don't know much else about Chantilly, north of 50 there are a lot of townhomes in the Oak Hill/Franklin Farms area that are nice but in the $350 and up range. Send me a PM if you want more specific info, or post what exactly you're looking for size- and price-wise.

And definitely search this forum for old posts, Chantilly has been well covered.

London Towne doesn't have the greatest reputation, but really, it's fine. It's a bit older and has a higher concentration of immigrants than the rest of Centreville and a higher crime rate (petty crime like vandalism, not drive bys or anything).

I don't really think that there are any townhouse communities in Chantilly or Centreville that are that bad. Some are of course in better condition than others but I don't think any are really particularly areas to avoid.

Red face centreville

Thanks, I'll do some searching for Chantilly info.
I'm looking in the $350,000 range for a townhouse. So far, I've seen some likely ones in Centreville, but many were in London Towne/ London Towne West, etc. and I wanted to get some additional info. besides my relator saying it was fine. The other thing that gave me pause was the volume of traffic on Stone Rd. (I was out looking during rush hour.) Maybe I'm just not used to the full ugliness that is NoVA rush hour since my work day ends at 2PM but - YIKES.

thanks again

I wouldn't discount the townhouses in Centreville due to the volume of traffic on Stone Road. While there IS a high volume of traffic there during rush hour, you're likely to find that everywhere in Northern Virginia. Rush hour is pretty much an unavoidable nightmare in Centreville and Chantilly but if your workday continues to end at 2pm, then you should be able to avoid the brunt of it luckily.

Check out Sully Station, I or II. Nice area and convenient to I-66, Rt. 50, Rt. 29, and Rt. 28.

Default WINDING BROOK, Chantilly VA

Hi every one. I am looking for Townhouses in the WINDING BROOK community and interested to know about this community. I am more concern about nearby elementry school as I am moving from Burke due to my job in Chantilly. One more thing I am curious about is the neighbourhood. As I am an asian and interested to know the area is favourable for immigrants. Do update me if any one has any info on this matter or further. Thanks
