I am relocating to VA in August from NY. My question is has anyone been able to get the YES Network in NoVA? My son is a big Yankees fan and I was wonderign if I can still get that channel when I move or do I need to do something else (like the MLB package)?

I have the YES network on DirecTV, but they blackout the games. I believe you'll need the MLB package to get them.

I'm guessing that's probably something you'll need to ask DirecTV

You can get the YES channel with the sports tier.

They will black out the actual games, but you get MOST of the other shows (see below). To get the games, you will need the MLB baseball package.

No matter what packages you have, Major Leage Baseball will not let certain shows be shown out of market, so things like Yankeeography and a few others will be blacked out.

Finally, and I'm not advocating this, some people have forgotten to tell DirecTV that they moved. In that case, you will still get the NY locals (instead of the DC locals) and all the YES programming. Of course, you probably can't use the movers connection package to get a dish on your new place.

When you move, you will bring your receivers and access cards with you. DirecTV authorizes the programming you are allowed to receive based upon your zip code. They have no idea where you actually live, unless you tell them. So, if you move your receivers, plug them in to a place that already has a dish, or put up a new dish, then your receivers will still see the same programming. If you call directv, and tell them you moved to VA, they will switch your programming to the DC market.

The only exceptions to this are what is called "spot beams". There are certain channels that can only be picked up by certain regions - the way the satalite signals come down are not available everywhere.. YES, and the major NY networks are not on spot beams, so you have no worries - those can be received anywhere in the continental US.
