Otherwise, you show up, you get food. Diner food. Good food.
Another one to put on the list is the Vienna Inn in, well, Vienna. Right in the middle of downtown on 123. Don't leave without having at least a couple of chili dogs all the way. Maybe some gravy fries with that?

Thanks for the Vienna Inn recommendation. We had a great meal there last night. I've got the 29 Diner on my list for our next trip out.

I don't think you'll be disappointed there either, but no place is quite like the Inn. I was there Friday night for the usual...four dogs, a basket a gravy fries, and a couple of pitchers. Had help with the last two. Mighty good eatin'!!! But as you saw, they have lots of other stuff too. Great for families, great for hanging out...the Inn is just plain hard to beat.
Kind of surprised that nobody's mentioned Bob & Edith's Diner down on Columbia Pike. It's not quite the 29 Diner, but it's a fine place at 3:00 in the morning anyway. Haven't been there in a while myself, though. Don't see 3:00 in the morning quite as often as I used to. Not at all surpised that nobody's mentioned the Steak & Egg Kitchen in Falls Church, since it isn't there anymore, but I thought I'd plug it anyway, as it was on a par with anyplace for really good pre-dawn eats. For a while there, nobody on the overnight staff actually spoke much of any language that wasn't Polish. Made for some v-e-e-e-ry interesting meals showing up...but it was all good!

Used to do the Amphora a lot since for years there were all kinds of hours when it was one of the few places around that was open. Like after the theater. Had a little falling out with the management there a few years back though. I didn't think much of their new smoking policy. They didn't really care what I thought. Anyway, some of their food was always very good, some not so much. But it was always a nice, comfy place to eat.

That is a great place, I was going to mention it. Used to go there when I was dating my husband.

Frost diner and Ben & Marys Steakhouse in Warrenton. Both have been around since the 50's and are still a great place to eat. I am actually going to b&m's in about an hour.

As luck would have it, I found myself having brunch yesterday at the Amphora in Herndon. Would this one be run by the same people as in Vienna? My Canadian burger was good; it was so big, in fact, that I couldn't finish it.
I also had a good experience at the Silver Diner, albeit over in Rockville, MD. I've seen one over here in Springfield but haven't yet had the chance to patronize it.
