Default Recent Grad looking for something to do in the Ashburn/Reston/Herndon Area

Just got out of school and started my new job working in Herndon. I know i've only been here for a few weeks but it seems like all i do is go to work, sleep, and watch tv. I'm wondering where all the 20-somethings are in this area. I know its technically the "suburbs" but theres gotta be something for the "younger, single crowd" to do around here. any ideas??

I can only talk for the 20-somethings (not the singles), there are some bars in Herndon and Reston with a pretty fun happy hour crowd. Most people seem to prefer to go closer to DC for other activities. Something to do in Ashburn? Umm.. umm.. no? Unless you'd like to join a gym, might be able to meet some people there. Good luck!

I live in Ashburn (married with kids) and I don't see much of a singles scene. At Ashburn Village there is a pub....Kirklands? Not sure of the name...but a lot of people seem to go there.
I agree with going to the gym to meet some people. At least there you will find all kinds of people.

Plan on budgeting your resources for going down to the Ballston-Clarendon corridor in Arlington if you want to find the highest concentration of 20-somethings. Otherwise, I defer to the others here. Out of the three towns, Reston might be your best bet, especially towards the Town Center. From what I understand, Ashburn is a family haven.

the casades shopping area (where home depot is) has a bar and resturants that get a younger crowd in the evenings and weekends.

also ...reston towncenter would be a close place to check out...maybe friday after work etc..

But agree your best bet is Ballston area.

It can be easy to fall into the habit of just eating, sleeping, working, and doing it all over again the next day - so its great that you're taking the initiative to make time for a social life as well!

Ballston is a great place to go out, and it is probably the closest place to you where you can start to find an urban-like setting and a lot of people your age. If you want a little variety you can also take the orange line a few stops farther to Clarendon and Court House.

One key to this: if you have friends that live closer to these areas and want to go out there on a weekend night, see if you can crash on a sofabed/aerobed at one of their places. Driving home the next morning is much safer and then you don't have to worry the slightest bit about mixing drinking and driving at all.

Agreed with DCGuy, nothing is worse then having to stay sober with your friends who are tipsy and then drive 40 minutes back to Loudoun County at 3 AM when the DC bars close!

I live in Herndon but I'm a stones throw from the Loudoun County Line, so I can relate to you somewhat. To put it bluntly, you really should go to DC or Arlington to find 20-something singles. The other option is joining an organization such as the Young Democrats or Young Republicans to meet other people. I know Loudoun County has strong organizations for each party.

I work in Tysons and live in Herndon, so I definately relate to the "eat, sleep, work" lifestyle. During the weekdays, that's what I do lol. But on the weekends, I enjoy all that the DC area has to offer.
