Dale City, VA for a family
I am moving to Ft Belvoir Virginia area very soon. I'm looking at a house on Sudberry Ln in Dale City and wanted to know if that was a safe area for a family with 2 small children. I'd like to feel safe going on walks and stuff. What do you think?

I was just there for the first time Wednesday, and we saw some really nice houses and neighborhoods. There were kids and families out walking and playing, lawns were well kept, houses were nice.

It is not bad there. My cousin lives in Montclair. You should look in that neighborhood. Lots of Foreclosures to be found in Prince WIlliam County.

I would stick with Montclair or Lake Ridge personally (Westridge in particular). That section of Dale City is nicer, however they mix those kids with some of the "other" sections of Dale City and sometimes that is a bad thing. Dale City is in alphabet sections. That section is known as the "S" section (Mainly anything off of Silverdale). Some places in the P and M sections (Princedale/Mapledale) have some wannabe gangbangers.

I have lived in Dale City for 22 years. It is as safe here as it is anywhere.
I would not be afraid to walk two small children anyplace in this town.
We have a high foreclosure rate, and prices have plummeted...it's a perfect opportunity to get a wonderful home priced as it was in 1988. If the homes are not re-occupied, THEN we might have a problem.

you will probably have a problem - with banks and mortgage companies going under and tightening their requirements - I dont see anyone buying anytime soon

I've lived in Dale City for 27 years. The community is laid out alphabetically, with the oldest areas being low in the alphabet (Ashdale, Birchdale, etc.).
We started in the B's and lived there - townhouse and then a detached single family home - for 5 years. We then bought a new townhouse (watched it being built) in Cherrydale, and lived there for 5 years.
We've been in the Nottingdale community for the last 17 years .... it's the longest I've ever lived in one house, and I'm 56 years old! The house is 30 years old.
Sudberry Lane is off Silverdale. The houses there aren't the newest in Dale City, but they are FAR from being the oldest. Silverdale connects to Minnieville, and that connects to Dale Blvd, the main east-west road through Dale City.
Sudberry Lane isn't a cul-de-sac, but it isn't a main road, either - I don't see anyone using it who doesn't live on the street or is visiting someone on the street, so the street traffic should be minimal.
As previously said, there are many foreclosures in this county ... and some of them are very nice houses. And there have been sales of houses recently, but nowhere near the sales volume of a couple of years ago.
We moved to Dale City from Maryland when our second child was born, looking for affordable housing and a good environment to raise a family. We weren't disappointed in either regard.

That's a broad statement. It depends what street and what area. Dale City is very large.
