Since he's traveling to the Reagan Building, there are four options for commuting from Woodbridge, should you live there: driving, Omniride, vanpools, and slugging (see the commuting options thread for more info). Driving solo, which you've wisely indicated you would not want to do, would take the longest. Omniride (the PWC commuter bus) would probably take ~45 minutes to 1:30, depending on where your husband would get picked up and dropped off (I'm lucky and can get to the Reagan Building in 40-45 minutes via Omniride). Vanpools are an option if your husband will work a set schedule, and would probably be ~45-1:10. Slugging is often quick in the morning, but will take longer in the afternoon, at least to my destination (Gordon Blvd & Old Bridge). If your husband works for the Fed. Govt, he can get up to $115 tax free each month to pay for Omniride and vanpools.
Feel free to PM me if you have any additional particular questions.
Good luck with this decision and potential move. I think you'll like NoVA.

Since I am originally from a small town and live in one now this whole suburb thing is new to me. For my day to day living is there any reason if we settled in Woodbridge that I would have to go outside of Woodbridge for anything? Or can I find everything I need there? I have seen the traffic between Woodbridge and DC and would rather stay home if I have to drive.

Thanks for the info, yes he is Fed Gov't and he has said he could get some compensation for his commute. I think his friend in Woodbridge does the Omnibus and my husband would probably meet up with him. This is alot of info to process.

You can find almost anything in Woodbridge or nearby area. Potomac Mills (in Woodbridge) is a blend between outlet and traditional malls (lots of stores). You have grocery shopping, most department stores, lots of restaurants. We have not had to travel outside of Woodbridge to buy anything yet.
I know it is a lot of information. I just moved 7 weeks ago from Illinois. Good luck with everything.
