My husband will be working primarily from our home, needing only occassionally to meet his business partner in Mclean. We can therefore live most anywhere we want. We have two kids - 5 yrs and 6 months of age so great schools (public or catholic schools) and kid friendly activities are needed. Need home in the 500-750K range no further then 2, maybe even 3 hours of DC area. Don't want to live by a strip mall, but don't want to be in the middle of nowhere either. We like the outdoors, enjoy walking, parks, books, history, restaurants, lectures, community festivals & gatherings. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Not sure exactly what you are looking for in a home or community, but if you are looking for a semi-rural feel, plus being within minutes of modern day conveniences, I'd check out the Aldie/Middleburg area. It would probably take 45 min- 1 hour to McLean during rush hour, a little more than 30 min off rush. We love it here and for high 600s/low 700s you can get a beautiful home with a little land.

SOme parts of Leesburg would be good, but I don't know about good schools. I love the area between Leesburg and Lucketts. Harpers Ferry?
Purceville would be good too.
good luck
