Default Lake Jackson - Manassas

I am trying to get a feel for what this neighborhood is like. I know it is rural and has gravel roads, but is it considered to be a good neighborhood overall...?

We have good friends that live in/near that area (don't want to give the actual address) but Lake Jackson Rd. is part of getting there) - they actually have paved roads and a beautiful house! I'm not sure what is considered Lake Jackson. We've also met many of their neighbors and really like them also.

Until a year ago I lived in a neighborhood that actually backed up to Lake Jackson - although you would never know it from the actual roads (you had to look at a map to figure it out if that makes sense). I would say it is mixed - some parts/cul-de-sacs are well kept and really beautiful. Others are seeming to be going a bit downhill. Some are also new, like aka 2000, if I'm right that they are counted as Lake Jackson. In many ways, you can find neighbors with more depth than those who migrate over to golf course communities in Haymarket, etc. But then you also get some less cultured, less educated types (I don't care unless they are really crass and rude, etc., not that I'm saying they are, I'm just saying I don't judge people based on money and education but on kindness, etc.). I will confess that I did hear one person say she was glad to get out of Lake Jackson (and I guess into one of these "newer" neighborhoods) but this surprised me - I would sometimes drive up and down those roads and there were some gorgeous parts. I have a good friend who I assume lives in LJ, depending on the exact boundaries, and she is extremely kind and down-to-earth and has found a true sense of community in her neighborhood.

Smile Lake Jackson

Hello, I saw this post tonight and although I know it has been here for a while I wanted to hopefully add a little insight.
I actually live "In Lake Jackson" I am on the lake.
To sum it up for you it is a private community that originally was a campground surrounding a man made lake. Then as the original owner became to old and ill to care for the property he began to sell off plots so people could build their log cabins/homes here. It is very red necky although people have tried to move here that obviously "don't belong". what I mean by that is they move here then realize this type of lifestyle is not for them. Most people here have a sole source of heat...and that is to cut down a tree, split logs and burn fires all winter 24/7. Others have cabins here with no water rights. Or simply come here then realize they hate the water, or the woods or the snakes, or the hawks, owls whatever. I think it is beautiful and will never leave. We do have a homeowners association and the president is a good friend of mine. Also, you have to pay yearly dues to get a key to the boat ramp.
hope this helps

Lake Jackson is a great place to live, yes we do have a deverse group here, but we all seem to make it work. I will correct one thing one poster said, we do NOT have a Home Owners Assoc, it is a citizens assoc, the difference, HOA can tell you what color to paint your door and what not, and have mandatory fees you must pay, Citizens Asso is voluntary, yes if you want a key to use the boat ramp you pay for memebership and a fee for the key to the ramp, but they can not tell you what color to paint your house or forclose if you do not pay assoc fees. Hope you have decided to come check us out, but as others have said, you need to like water, darkness and lots of wildlife.Anyone who owns property here has water rights, you just have to purchase the key & membership. Schools would depend on what side of the lake, but PWC has great schools, so you should have no worries there.

They are talking about the actual community Lake Jackson. It's on the other side of Rt 234 (Dumfries Rd) from the Lake Jackson Drive many people know.

Oh, never heard of it! So it is a neighborhood off the regular grid? Thanks for explaining. I know I went to a bridal shower once over by Lake Jackson drive in manassas and it was your typical suburban subdivision, so I was a little confused!

Hello to all,
I am in CA. and in the process of accepting employment in the McLean area. I am seriously thinking of a home there at Lake Jackson. Questions I have is; how are the roads in the area for winter driving? This particular house is off Linda Place with a private road. How far is the nearest commuter station to McLean? What type of building restrictions are there for additions to exsisting dwellings?

There are many other questions in mind but no room nor this being the place to ask that many LOL.

If someone who is a resident in the Lake Jackson Community would be willing to chat back and forth a bit through email it would be cool. Moderator Cut
Thanks to all who read this,

Dave
