Lake Jackson - Manassas
I am trying to get a feel for what this neighborhood is like. I know it is rural and has gravel roads, but is it considered to be a good neighborhood overall, or a bit too rednecky?

We have good friends that live in/near that area (don't want to give the actual address) but Lake Jackson Rd. is part of getting there) - they actually have paved roads and a beautiful house! I'm not sure what is considered Lake Jackson. We've also met many of their neighbors and really like them also.

Until a year ago I lived in a neighborhood that actually backed up to Lake Jackson - although you would never know it from the actual roads (you had to look at a map to figure it out if that makes sense). I would say it is mixed - some parts/cul-de-sacs are well kept and really beautiful. Others are seeming to be going a bit downhill. Some are also new, like aka 2000, if I'm right that they are counted as Lake Jackson. In many ways, you can find neighbors with more depth than those who migrate over to golf course communities in Haymarket, etc. But then you also get some less cultured, less educated types (I don't care unless they are really crass and rude, etc., not that I'm saying they are, I'm just saying I don't judge people based on money and education but on kindness, etc.). I will confess that I did hear one person say she was glad to get out of Lake Jackson (and I guess into one of these "newer" neighborhoods) but this surprised me - I would sometimes drive up and down those roads and there were some gorgeous parts. I have a good friend who I assume lives in LJ, depending on the exact boundaries, and she is extremely kind and down-to-earth and has found a true sense of community in her neighborhood.

Lake Jackson
Hello, I saw this post tonight and although I know it has been here for a while I wanted to hopefully add a little insight.
I actually live "In Lake Jackson" I am on the lake.
To sum it up for you it is a private community that originally was a campground surrounding a man made lake. Then as the original owner became to old and ill to care for the property he began to sell off plots so people could build their log cabins/homes here. It is very red necky although people have tried to move here that obviously "don't belong". what I mean by that is they move here then realize this type of lifestyle is not for them. Most people here have a sole source of heat...and that is to cut down a tree, split logs and burn fires all winter 24/7. Others have cabins here with no water rights. Or simply come here then realize they hate the water, or the woods or the snakes, or the hawks, owls whatever. I think it is beautiful and will never leave. We do have a homeowners association and the president is a good friend of mine. Also, you have to pay yearly dues to get a key to the boat ramp.
hope this helps
