What's Chantilly like?
Hi all.
My Husband is doing a secondment with work in N Virginia. Just found out the office will be in Massassas but colleagues have recommended living in Chantilly.
I probably won't have access to a car for most of the time and was wondering what public transport is like in Chantilly. I see that there is a direct train from Manassas to DC but can't find anything similar for Chantilly.
I may or may not be working so don't want to find myself isolated and bored while H is out making the money to keep me in diamonds
Thanks

I think there is a Fairfax Connector bus that will take you to the Vienna Metro station from Chantilly. The cost of housing is a little higher in Chantilly so if you want bigger-better diamonds then go to Manassas. Manassas is nice little town and has the VRE station to get you to DC.

Thanks VRE. I've read some dodgy stuff on here re Manassas. I presume its just like any other town where they have good areas and bad areas.

I'm not over in Chantilly that much, but when I do go there (mostly to visit Lowes) I just can't get over the traffic. Route 50 is crazy nuts, even for this area - with big, heavy construction trucks just zooming down the road.
On the upside, there are a fair amount of stores and restaurants in that area and you would be pretty close to Fair Oaks mall. Also, the homes there tend to be on the newer side.
Parts of Manassas are a lot more quiet by comparison. Even scenic.

Quiet neighbourhood would be nice with amenities close by. Is there such a place? LOL
Hopefully H will have some time over there before we have to commit to where we will live.

I would recommend taking a look at Centreville. It is a nice place and is closer to Manassas than Chantilly. I think it should also be served by the Metro Bus or Fairfax Connector. The closest metro station again would be Vienna/Fairfac-GMU station.
