I am a single mid twenties female that will be relocating to the DC area in order to work in Largo. I'm transplanting from out of state and have done tons of research online about good/safe places to live. My goal is to be close to Play, i.e. DC so i know i'll have to commute to work.

I'm looking to move to the Alexandria area, closer to the river. About how long of a commute would that be to Largo? I know from DC it wouldn't be too far. Also, i'm looking at Riverside Apts (5860 Cameron Run Terrace), please let me know if you have any good/bad info on there too. Thanks!

Thanks!

While Alexandria and Largo may not seem far geographically, the traffic can be maddening. Ideally, your employer is near the Largo Town Center Metrorail stop. If so, Riverside Apts would be convenient as you could catch their shuttle to the Huntington Metro Station about a half mile away. You'll probably have to change trains somewhere in the middle but it should be a 40 minute ride or so.

I have a friend who lives in Riverside. It's a decent apartment building that is gated. They recently built a new rec center and are in the process of renovating the units. The area surrounding it is pretty non-descript but convenient to Route 1 and the Beltway (I-495). Huntington Gateway and Belle View Towers are other options across the street to consider. For laid-back nightlife, Old Town Alexandria is just a couple miles north. The 20something haven that is the Ballston-Clarendon corridor is a few miles north of that.

Yes, if the Metro is feasible on the MD side, you'd take the Yellow Line from Huntigton, then change to ther Blue Line at L'Enfant Plaza and ride to Largo Town Center. The rush-hour fare each way is $4.50. With the change of train, the whole trip would likely be closer to 50-55 minutes just for the train part. Driving it would leave you with about 20 miles of almost all Beltway, including the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. That would be 25-30 minutes on a Sunday morning. On a Monday morning??? Anybody's guess...
