Novamom06 is right- except OP is talking about Sterling- he keeps calling it Great Falls since the subdivision in sterling is called great falls.. so I'd add another 15 minutes at least...

I think that Great Falls is out of the question. Too far, too complicated. Falls Church is nice, but the houses are too old and too small.
West Falls Church is probably the best location for proximity to public transportation, McLean Schools, shopping, and access to major highways.

Also, there are many homes in this area that are large. I would not rule out an area without doing the proper research.
