Weather question
I searched the forum but couldn't find this particular question. When my husband was there last summer his boss who lived in Foggy Bottom told him that it was really hot in July and Aug and then begins to cool down in Sept. Is this true? Is it a gradual cooling or just you wake up one morning and fall has arrived. We really don't have much of a fall here until Nov so I am definately looking forward to the 4 seasons. I always say our seasons are cool, hot, hotter and hottest.

Our weather....interesting topic
January-February: Cold with some 50s days. Sometimes crazy things happen like 60s/70s, but rare. Snow is always a possibility, ice too. Biggest complaint in this time period is the drearyness and gray skies.
March: Sometimes like Jan/Feb, sometimes like April below, but more like Jan/Feb. Variable to say the very least.
April: Our true transition time period. The 70s come in and yes of course there is rain. An overall good month though.
May: Now we are just in plain summer. 80s, humidity, the works.
June-September: HOT AND HUMID. Again, hot and humid.
October: BEAUTIFUL time of year. Go explore the changing leaves in the Shenandoah, pick apples, etc. 70s/80s during the day, but with diminishing humidity. Many times you still need a/c after 10/15, but not that much.
November: Gradually getting colder, but still many no-jacket possible days.
December: So excited about Christmas that unless there is a weather emergency, like snow or ice, you barely even notice the weather outside. 40s/50s, heat necessary.
We used to have a more gradual change between our seasons, but not so much anymore. April and October are our best months--recommend that your visitors come during these months. I read a study once that said temperature wise due to global warming, we have moved southward to the present position of Raleigh, N.C. The study was based on tree leaf patterns. Whether that is true or not, who knows. Hope this was somewhat informative...best of luck in your move!

As long as I have refrigerated air I will be okay. I am actually from S Texas so the humidity is something I have lived in. I will have to readjust after having lived in NM for 8 yrs. Alot of the houses in our area only have evaporated a/c so when it is our monsoon season as it is now and our humidity jumps to above 30% the a/c doesn't work. So it has been pretty miserable here.

What they say about Washington weather is true. If you don't like it, wait 15 minutes and it will change.

ROFL, except for this year where it was cold all through May and then jumped to 106 at the beginning of June.
The only thing predictable about the weather here is that it's unpredictable. But overall, it really isn't that bad.

CaseyMac said it best. Day-to-day it's a crapshoot, it varies so much. To people who recently moved and are scared about the cold, it's really only bad for a month or two. I don't break out my coat or heavy wool sweaters until February. The "snow" lasts for a day, maybe. The biggest issue is that I've found a lot of sidewalks and streets are not pre-treated, making it a mess with even a little bit of ice. The heat's roughly the same, with the worst being July-August (June has its moments). Other than that, it's all in between, which is fine by me.
October is by far my favorite month here, I keep telling all the newcomers at work to hold out. April is a very close 2nd.
