I must add that PWCS illegally denies payments of overtime to its bus drivers. Activitity trips (field trips, sports, etc.) are paid seperately, too avoid paying OT. Even though, it is the same bus, same students, same school.......I believe any court of law in America would find this practice to be illegal. Cheating people out of OT, and using people with only HS to teach YOUR kids--maybe NoVa isn't that "affluent," after all.

Before one beats up *too* much on PWCS, our own experience when the spousal unit was teaching in the public schools was that none of the school districts were particularly prompt or organized with their HR. Applications were submitted at Loudoun, Prince William, Fairfax, Arlington and Fauquier - the Loudoun and Prince William folks were the only ones that really responded in any kind of meaningful way. PW did have to be prodded but responded when they were nudged a bit.

The overall impression that we got was that all the area school districts wait until August to do their hiring for the new school year. It's a stupid way to go about things, but it seems to be the overall "strategy."

Hey barry, are you still driving school bus for PWC? If so, QUIT and come to FCPS!

While FCPS is cracking down on overtime due to the budget situation, drivers are still allowed to go into overtime for field trips.

I'm starting my 6th year with FCPS Transportation and I miss the early years....used to get 50+ hours a week. They were short over 200 drivers and overtime was automatically approved.

But as the economy worsened, recruitment has picked up to the point that we are almost fully staffed now. Therefore, the only overtime allowed is field trips....or unless they're really desperate to get a run covered.

Plus, probably half the fleet is air-conditioned now!
