Hi. We JUST moved to the area and have been trying to figure out where some good places to eat in the area are... when we can wade through the boxes to get to the door

We are near Springfield/Burke/Woodbridge - maybe a slight radius beyond that, as well...

Any great chains would be good, but more looking for non-chains, family-friendly, all different types of food.

Thanks!!

Mike's American in Springfield Mikes American

We enjoy the brick oven pizzas at Villa Bella, Burke about us (http://villabellaristorante.com/html/about_us.html - broken link)

DAKS in Woodbridge isn't bad, just don't be in a hurry. Go on a nice night, take your time and sit outside. Menu (http://www.daksgrill.com/menu.htm - broken link)

Second Austin Grill, and Mike's. Mike's is part of a local "chain" (Redirector), all of which are pretty good.
Glory Days Glory Days Grill in Burke is good for watching the game (or match or whatever) and family friendly.
For something more formal (and expensive), there's Heart in Hand and the Hermitage in the town of Clifton, although I think the Hermitage has recently been sold.

Oh, I would second Heart in Hand in Clifton - excellent! Try some of the restaurants in Occoquan - Madigan's, Virginia Tavern/Inn. NoVA is plastered with chain restaurants (unfortunately). Further down 95 in Fredericksburg we have enjoyed Old Towne Steak & Seafood and another which name escapes me right now - is run by a husband and wife and excellent food.

Also highly recommend Milanos. Further, try Glory Days in Burke (great, fast American food, burgers and really good selection of other items) and while there be sure to check out the Swiss Bakery (bread and sweets that cannot be beat). We really like Bob Evans in Springfield. Their service and price are the best in the area for breakfast. Also in Springfield is Chicken Out. Near Fair Oaks Mall you'll see tons of other restaurants such as Red Robin and Fudruckers, etc. Towards Kingstown, at Kingstown mall there's several of the usual chains and a couple local joints to check out near the theater. Welcome to the area! And remember, all the restaurants in DC are only a metro ride away from the Springfield Metro stop.
