Don't know the legality of it, but if I KNEW I was going to lose my $2400 security deposit....I would quit paying the rent and would seek to stay in the house for $2400 dollars worth of days!

Hey, didn't they just catch a guy around here that was renting out foreclosed houses that he didn't own or have anything to do with?

Talk about chutzpah!

In today's market, it is the tenants who should be doing credit checks on the landlords!

I advised in another posting that a prospective tenant ask for a statement from the landlord's bank or mortgage company. You want to see a payment history and a statement that mortgage payments are current. If they refuse, go on to the next rental. Just because the house is in the upper brackets does not mean the owner is not in trouble, there are foreclosures in Great Falls and McLean too.
