I need suggestions, I have been fishing in this area for a long time and still have not fished all the lakes and rivers. I just wanted to know and share some spots where I have had success and I would love to hear about other good spots.

Mostly I ask because I am one of those guys who when I find 2 or 3 good spots, I dont venture out to other locations as much. I dont think I am alone alot of people I talk to say they do the same thing.

Some of my spots
1. Pohick Bay
2. Mattawoman up and down
3. Fountainhead
4. Leesylvania Park
Lake Anna(seldomly)

I would like to know is lake Barcroft any good or worth going to?

Yes, unless you own property with a lake on it or your fishing from shore from your property.

My favorite spot is Cabo San Lucas. But it's a bit far to go...

I think Barcroft is private.

How about Burke Lake?
Upper Potomac near Fletcher's Boat House?
Lake Accotink?

Any of these especially good for young children (6)? He's been dying to go fishing, but we know nothing about fishing. I'd really like a stocked lake, but not sure if they even have those close by.

Lake Barcroft is private--residents and guests of residents only.

They stock Lake Accotink.

Default Fairfax County stocked lakes

FCPA stocks Lake Accotink and Lake Fairfax starting in February, but the park Web site says fishing "will continue at both parks until April 20." I seem to recall my husband taking my sons (11 and 7) fishing at Lake Fairfax, though, after that date. Here's the link, in any case:
Trout Fishermen Lured by Freshly Stocked Lakes

He's also taken them to Lake Anne in Reston, Great Falls Regional Park and Riverbend Regional Park. Here's info on fishing at Riverbend, where you can rent rods and reels, as well as rowboats:

You don't need a license to fish anywhere on the tidal Potomac, which is all the way up to Little Falls, just above Chain Bridge. There are some nice spots on the rocks along the VA side just below the bridge. Careful on the path leading down from Glebe Road though. You can spend a nice day on the Upper Potomac too. South of White's Ferry on the MD side is nice as there are little camp areas every so often along the trail. A VA license is good on the MD side as long as you're in the Potomac only. Put your line in any tributary, and you're illegal...
