hi, so i got a ticket for driving 86 in 55 yesterday night, and i got pulled over in 395 north right before the exit to the pentagon city. i have to go to court about 2 month and i just happened to find out that i might have to pay like $3000, possibly jail time, lose my license and stuff. plus im a 18 year old male, no job(looking for one) and about to go to NOVA. i've never been pulled over and im very frustrated about jail time. i know i made a stupid mistake and im looking for some advice.

Advice:

1) Slow down. There's no excuse for 86.

2) Search the forums for similar threads before you post. This has been asked a dozen times in the past 3 or 4 months. If, after you read these posts, you have a clarification question, bring the old thread back to life or start a new one.

3) Slow down. You were driving recklessly, and could have killed many people.

Please just search the Northern VA forum. There are probably 15-20 reckless driving threads posted in just the past 6 months, everyone on here is tired of giving the same information.

There is no excuse for going 86 in a 55. If you are a licensed driver in VA then you know that any speed over 80 mph or driving 20mph + over the posted speed limit is reckless driving. You should also have known that one does indeed get very high fines and possible jail time for such poor driving behavior.

my advice is get a lawyer, go to driving school beforehand, and dress well for court.

I'm sick of drivers doing as they please on 95 and 395 and putting people like me, who just want to get to where they're going alive, in danger. In just two days i've had two drivers nearly hit me on 395 North where Edsall Rd meets the HOV lanes because they were doing 80-90 in the far right merging lane.

I'm 20 yrs old and rarely do over 60-65 and i still get passed by everyone. If i can resist that temptaion why can't anyone else?

I also dont like it when these drivers come onto the Virginia forum and attempt to get sympathy when Virginia has correctly enforced its reckless driving laws. I hope that judge comes down hard on you.

My goodness. The kid is just looking for advice. Why do we feel it is necessary to lecture? What he did was stupid and dangerous and everything that everyone has said. Thankfully it is just a ticket that he has to deal with. But my point is that I have watched the board turn a bit ugly over the past few months. Most people are looking for insight into a very overwhelming area. When harshness like this is what they see, what do they think of the area? I absolutely love Nova. The people here are kind. The lifestyle is perfect for me. But you wouldn't know that if you were to base it entirely on the reactions of this board.

As far as what to do, follow the advise given in previous posts. It sounds like it was very helpful to others in your situation.

That's why. And if he never got caught, he would probably keep doing it until he killed someone. It's a crime, not a mistake. No compassion deserved.
