I feel bad that nobody responded, sorry I can't help - I've run errands, etc. around Kings Highway (no idea where those neighborhoods are though) - I'm in the West End if you have questions about that

I looked at the Jefferson Manor neighborhood (and Huntington down the hill) a couple of years ago. IMO, the area's best feature is the proximity of the Huntington Metro. At that time, many of the old duplexes were being "flipped" by investors. In general it seemed to be a mix of blue-collar families and yuppies (with a majority of the former). Over on Rte. 1, there are a ton of strip malls (Giant, Safeway, Target, Lowes, etc.), casual dining and fast food joints. The multiplex on Eisenhower is one Metro stop away, and Old Town is two. Overall, the area seemed "safe" to me, but statistically I'm sure it's not as safe as, say, Great Falls.
Both neighborhoods are in the Alexandria portion of Fairfax County. I drive by the Weyanoke neighborhood on Rte. 236 a few times a month, but I'm not very familiar with it. In general there seems to be a large immigrant population in the area around 236 west of I-395. Again, it feels perfectly safe to me, but you might check the Police Dept's section of the Fairfax County website (Fairfax County Police Department*- Fairfax County, Virginia) to see what they have to say. |
