Oops I didn't see the message - sorry. We'll be there this upcoming weekend. Move would be in another month. I'm so excited to get up there!

I wouldn't want to be anywhere near places like that once the unemployment extensions end...and the inhabitants really get desperate.

Huh?? Where were you, exactly? Sounds like Detroit or someplace in northern Ohio. "Midwest" (with or without a hyphen) is probably the broadest of all the major American geographic categories. (I get the sort of feeling you described in Front Royal, incidentally. )

Hmm... I would bet (like I mentioned a bit ago) that Fayetteville has some at least semi-artsy areas, as well as Little Rock. I, too, am no Arkansas expert, but I used to live sort of near northern Arkansas (in west central Missouri), so I'm a bit familiar with that area.

My fiance and I have both been through that. I moved South right after high school (northern NC), while he took off to Denver. It only took us both about a year to truly miss NOVA. There's a lot to say about vacationing in the slow South, but nothing llike NOVA.

That's how I feel, too. Although I'll admit I used to love going to the beach. That's the one thing I wish we had here.

Lived in the Northern VA area since middle school.. Took it for granted always bashed NOVA about how much i didnt like it and how i couldnt wait to leave. Moved to Atlanta for school. It was cool at first but after about 6 months all i could think about was my family and friends up in NOVA and just everything i took for granted such as GoGo music, Diversity, Vibrant, very HIP. Just recently moved back to the area. AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER....I LOVE THE DMV AREA thiers just no place like it.. COME BACK !!!!

I'm not originally from NoVA, but after spending two years in Chicago for work I'm willing to move back, hopefully by the end of this year. Landing an interview for a job 700+ miles away is a pain, even though NoVa has numerous opportunities in my field at any given time.

I've heard similar things from a lot of people lately. You know, for all that we like to laugh at Nova, there are a lot of good things here that are easy to take for granted until you move away and see what other places can be like. Good luck with your job search, and I hope you find something soon.

Can I have your job in Chicago? I already have housing there, even, if I can talk my parents into letting me pay rent to live in their Lincoln Park condo. In fact, to those of you who want to come here but can't because of work - can I have *any* of your jobs?

I'm not aware of any good things here that I take for granted, except maybe my job (just *some* of the time, though), since I'm in a particularly wonky field (a museum science/curatorial niche that doesn't literally prevent me from working anywhere else.. just makes it a lot harder).
