This question has been puzzling me since I moved here in April.

If I am going from Ashburn to Mansassas (and back) do I have to avoid I-66 because it's HOV?

Someone told me it's just the left lane and I'll be fine but I just want to make sure because I know the tickets aren't cheap.

If I take 28-S and get on 66W and exit at VA-234 am I ok?

TIA

That's fine. I66 is HOV-only inside the Beltway, and only inbound in morning rush, and outbound in afternoon rush.

28 to 234 is totally outside the Beltway, and only the left lane in peak hours is HOV. So basically, stay out of the left lane if the sign says HOV-only. Otherwise, do whatever.

If driving between Ashburn and Manassas, why are you even going near Rt 66? I would be taking Belmont Ridge Rd to Gum Springs Rd to RT 234.

Does HOV mean 2 or more passengers? Or 3 or more? Thanks!

I-66 HOV is 2 passengers; I-395/95 HOV is 3 passengers.

HOV is one of the dumbest ideas I have ever encountered in my life. With the amount of traffic this area has, they should open all lanes to ease the congestion.

Not sure. I'm just following Mapquest as I don't know my way around yet.
